My First Totally Brand-Safe Stand-Up Comedy Set!

I recently crossed stand-up comedy off my bucket list at The Public Brewhouse and Gallery open-mic comedy night.

The venue was packed with great people, chill vibes, and fun jokes! There were lots of good comedians there. I'd like to thank Joel Brandt for organizing the event. Thank you also to comedian, writer, actor Matt Falk for the kind words of inspiration.

Here's my totally brand-safe comedy set for your enjoyment:

Open-Mic Comedy Night

The Public Brewhouse and Gallery

301 Main Street

Steinbach, Manitoba, Canada

Saturday, August 9, 2025

7:30 p.m.

My name is Alan Wiebe.

I’m excited to cross stand-up comedy off my bucket list.

“Some of you came for trivia night and are very confused right now… Don’t worry. I am, too!”

“So, a little bit about myself – I’m a writer. I sell farmer sausage jokes for a living. Right now, I’m funded by the government. It’s a federal grant called E.I.!”

“I’m not lazy. I’m just preserving calories.”

“I’m careful about what I put into my mouth – but I don’t care what comes out of it!”

“I’ve been feeling kind of depressed lately. I had to write an obituary the other day. It was for one of my characters, who died unexpectedly. I didn’t even see it coming. Talk about a plot twist!”

Tonight’s open-mic comedy night times perfectly with the launch of my new series, called The Mennonitiche Dispatch.

The Mennonitiche Dispatch is a comedy of fiction series about a group of shunned Mennonites who were banished to Planet Colonia, located 10,000 light-years from Earth.

This futuristic sci-fi series is written from the perspective of Maria Dyck, a reporter on Planet Colonia, who sends monthly news updates to her friends, relatives, and readers back on Earth.

The Mennonitiche Dispatch is inspired by real, engaging, and ridiculous stories of Mennonite life in Paraguay, South America.

I’d like to thank The Public Brewhouse and Gallery for providing this venue for tonight’s event.

"It’s nice to see a thriving creative scene right here in Steinbach - and I’m really looking forward to seeing a death metal show at the new Southeast Events Centre.”

“Did you hear they’re building another Bible school in Steinbach. They should build a Karma Sutra College! Can you imagine graduating with honours!?!”

“If Jesus was an introvert – I bet he hated people!”

“The Sermon on the Mount could’ve been  a blog post!”

“That joke killed in Winkler!”

“I’m literally reading these jokes in the order they were written. You can unsubscribe at any time – the door is right over there!”

“Is it just me – or does it ever feel like we’re being gaslit every waking minute of every single day? Just kidding – it’s not me it’s you!”

“I have mommy issues and daddy issues. They’re both getting sick of my shit!”

I’d like to thank Joel Brandt for organizing tonight’s event. Happy birthday!
